There has been an alarming rise in untraceable, homemade ghost guns during the COVID-19 pandemic and we must take immediate action to protect public safety.
Ghost guns make up 30% of all firearms recovered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm and Explosives every year in the state of California. Currently, under California law, these ghost guns are not classified as firearms, which prevents law enforcement from seizing them when serving a Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO).
I have authored AB 1057 which closes this dangerous loophole by allowing for ghost guns to be seized when serving a GVRO. This bill ensures that these readily available weapons which look and act like any other firearm are treated appropriately by the law.
