SACRAMENTO – After tens of thousands of fraudulent claims and more than $810 million taxpayer dollars lost, the California State Assembly voted to pass legislation to implement standard fraud-prevention practices at California's Employment Development Department (EDD). AB 110, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie-Petrie-Norris, will require the Employment Development Department (EDD) to cross-check incarceration records in order to prevent paying fraudulent benefits and wasting taxpayer dollars. 

SACRAMENTO – With bipartisan support in the Legislature, AB 72 – The 2021 Coastal Adaptation Permitting Act – passed out of the Assembly. AB 72, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, will rationalize the regulatory approval process for critical coastal adaptation projects.

SACRAMENTO – At a virtual press event, the Milken Institute released a summary of initial findings on California’s Life Sciences industry. The report, “Sustaining California's Leadership in Life Sciences R&D,” outlines the vital role of life sciences in California and the positive impact that state Research and Development Tax Credits have on sustaining growth in the industry. The full report will be released in early June to help lawmakers make state budget decisions. 

SACRAMENTO – On May 26, 2021, the Milken Institute, a non-profit and nonpartisan think tank, will join Assemblymembers Cottie Petrie-Norris and Kevin Mullin to discuss findings from their newest report on the effects of the Research and Development Tax Credit on Pandemic recovery and workforce development.

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly’s Committee on Accountability and Administrative Review has a new Chief Consultant, Jesse Cuevas. Cuevas will be leading this committee with a data-driven approach and will be focused on ensuring efficiency in our state government. The committee’s purview includes identifying inefficiencies in the management of state government, reviewing and studying the implementation, operation and effectiveness of state programs and agencies.
