Bill to Increase Access to Drought-Proof Water in OC Becomes Law

SACRAMENTO— Assembly Bill 1752, authored by Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach), ensures access to state bond and revolving funds to assist in the construction of the Doheny Ocean Desalination Project, which will provide drought-proof, local drinking water. This project will significantly enhance local water supplies while reducing the region’s 90% reliance on imported water. Today, AB 1752 was signed into law by Governor Newsom.

RELEASE: Bill to Protect State Records Signed into Law - AB 469 Improves Transparency and Preserves Sensitive Information

SACRAMENTO– Assembly Bill 469, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach), passed both houses of the State Legislature with unanimous support and has been signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom. This bill will ensure that state records are consistently and properly managed by requiring each state agency to appoint a Records Management Coordinator.

RELEASE: Governor Newsom Signs AB 558 - Pro Bono Legal Services for Active Military Members now Law

SACRAMENTO – In an effort to address the legal services gap for active duty military, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Accountability and Administrative Review, authored Assembly Bill 558, which requires the California State Bar to coordinate civil legal services for active duty service members and their families who otherwise cannot afford them.

Action Necessary in Response to the Opioid Crisis

SACRAMENTO — Assembly Bills (AB) 919 and 920, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach), will increase protections for vulnerable patients seeking legitimate substance abuse treatment. Both bills passed the Legislature unanimously, at the end of the legislative session with bipartisan support, and will now be sent to the Governor who has until October 13, 2019 to consider legislation.

RELEASE: Legislature Passes Bill Seeking Local Input in Future Use of Fairview Developmental Center - AB 1199 Passes Senate Floor with Bi-Partisan Unanimous Support

SACRAMENTO – In an effort to ensure local input is considered regarding the future use of Fairview Developmental Center in Costa Mesa, California, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris authored Assembly Bill 1199, which would require the Department of General Services (DGS) to hold a public hearing. Today, AB 1199 passed the Senate Floor 40-0, receiving final approval from the Legislature with strong bi-partisan support.

RELEASE: Governor Newsom Signs Climate Resiliency Bill into Law - AB 1011 Incentivizes Habitat Restoration Projects to Protect California’s Coast

SACRAMENTO—In an effort to incentivize nonprofits to undertake projects that provide habitat restoration and improved public access to coastal resources, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris has worked with the Coastal Commission to pass Assembly Bill 1011 to provide fee-waivers to 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The bill was unanimously approved by the legislature and was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.

RELEASE: California State Senate Approves Bill to Expand Access to Birth Control - AB 1264 Clarifies Vague Telehealth Law for Patients

SACRAMENTO – Assembly Bill 1264, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach), will increase access to birth control by allowing Californians to be prescribed birth control via a smartphone app with fewer barriers. Today, AB 1264 was overwhelmingly approved by the Senate 35-2 and is now headed to the Assembly for a concurrence vote.
