Assemblymember Petrie-Norris and Survivors Announce Bill to Fully End State-Sanctioned Child Marriage in California

Sacramento, CA — Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine) introduced AB 2924, a bill to finally end the gruesome act of state-sanctioned child marriage in California. In 2021 alone, it is estimated that more than 8,700 children are estimated to have been married in California. The legislation is sponsored by Unchained At Last, a survivor-led nonprofit organization committed to ending forced and child marriage in the United States.

River channel cleanup prevents record 3,100 pounds of trash from polluting Upper Newport Bay

Costa Mesa, CA  Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris and Orange County Coastkeeper hosted a river channel cleanup on Saturday, December 16, at the Santa Ana-Delhi Channel. Volunteers collected nearly 3,100 pounds of trash ranging from large bulky items, plastic containers and other debris that would otherwise end up in Upper Newport Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine) was appointed Chair of the State Assembly's Committee on Utilities and Energy. The Committee on Utilities and Energy has primary jurisdiction over the California Energy Commission, the California Public Utilities Commission, Energy service providers, and the many ways power is generated in California, including via biomass, natural gas, geothermal, hydroelectric, renewables, solar, and wind.

Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris presents $2 Million to City of Irvine for Real Time Crime Center

IRVINE, CA – Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris secured $2 million in state budget funding for the City of Irvine to develop a Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). This will further enable officers, crime analysts, and dispatchers to gather and communicate critical information and effectively capitalize on the expanding range of technologies that increase the apprehension of offenders, prevent crime, promote sustainability, and improve officer safety.

Volunteers Harvest Over 7,000 Pounds of Fresh Produce at Harvest Solutions Farm during Hunger Action Month Event

IRVINE – On Saturday, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D—Irvine) and Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County hosted a Harvest Solutions Farm Volunteer Event in Irvine to help harvest seasonal produce so that Orange County residents have consistent access to nutritious food. Volunteers harvested over 7,000 pounds of bell peppers that will be distributed in food boxes by Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County to individual and families served by the food bank and local pantries.
