Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine) was appointed Chair of the State Assembly's Committee on Utilities and Energy. The Committee on Utilities and Energy has primary jurisdiction over the California Energy Commission, the California Public Utilities Commission, Energy service providers, and the many ways power is generated in California, including via biomass, natural gas, geothermal, hydroelectric, renewables, solar, and wind.
"I am proud of this opportunity to work alongside Speaker Rivas and my colleagues to advance California's clean energy goals," said Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris. "We are seeing the effects of the climate crisis every day, and it's incumbent upon us to move our green economy forward. As we build our clean energy future, we need to tackle some big challenges to develop a resource portfolio that’s sustainable, reliable, and affordable. I'm very excited to get to work."
“Strong oversight of California’s utilities impacts every household, every day. I’m confident that Assemblymember Petrie-Norris will work diligently to keep the voices of everyday Californians front-and-center and ensure accountability from providers,” Speaker Robert Rivas said. “I thank Assemblymember Garcia for his important work on critical energy issues. The Legislature will be closely focused on ensuring energy stability, affordability, and safety in this coming session, and I look forward to working with Cottie.”
