Orange County Assemblymember Promotes Access to Birth Control for All Californians

AB 1264 Will Reduce Barriers and Expand Access to Birth Control to Address Unmet Need

SACRAMENTO – To expand access to birth control and enable providers to truly meet patients where they are, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris is authoring AB 1264 that will allow people to safely access birth control via phone apps. AB 1264 is simply seeking to clarify vague telehealth law related to safely prescribing medication. The bill was approved by the Assembly Business & Professions Committee today on a 16-0 bipartisan vote.

SACRAMENTO — In a commitment to investing in Green Infrastructure along California’s coastal communities, the State Assembly unanimously approved Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris’ Assembly Bill 65 (AB 65) on Monday, April 22, 2019. Proposition 68, approved by California voters on June 5, 2018, authorizes $40 million to address coastal adaptation; and AB 65 prioritizes projects that utilize green-natural infrastructure for coastal adaptation.

Assembly Health Committee Approves Calderon and Petrie-Norris Bill Aimed At Empowering Female Patients During Pelvic Exams

Sacramento, CA – The Assembly Health Committee approved Assembly Bill 1030 today with bipartisan support. AB 1030 is a measure authored by Majority Leader Ian Calderon and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, which requires the California Medical Board and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to develop an informational pamphlet for patients undergoing a gynecological pelvic examination.

Legislation to Assist Coastal Communities with Climate Change Passes 1st Committee

SACRAMENTO — In an effort to assist coastal communities with adaptation to climate change, the Assembly Natural Resources Committee voted 11-0 to pass Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris’ Assembly Bill 65 (AB 65) on Monday, March 25, 2019. Proposition 68, approved by California voters on June 5, 2018, authorizes $40 million to address sea-level rise; and AB 65 prioritizes projects that utilize green-natural infrastructure for coastal adaptation.

SACRAMENTO — Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach), released the following statement regarding social media postings involving students who displayed anti-Semitic symbols:

“I am heartsick and disturbed seeing kids in our community engage in anti-Semitism. I find the casualness of their bigotry and hate particularly concerning. This is not normal and we can’t turn a blind eye. We must do a better job educating our kids—there is no room in our society for hate.

SACRAMENTO — Today, Thursday, February 28, 2019 Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach) introduced House Resolution 16 proclaiming March 2nd as Read Across America Day in California, an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. It is sponsored by the National Education Association and California Teachers Association, along with many of the country’s leading literacy and youth groups. The resolution passed the State Assembly 75-0.
