SACRAMENTO, Calif. —The assembly passed bills on Wednesday addressing reform of the state's troubled Employment Development Department.

Assembly Bill 110 would require that EDD cross-reference records of those incarcerated with the unemployment records and applications.

After a KCRA 3 investigation revealed the rampant fraud being perpetrated against the state's unemployment department, district attorneys across the state started their own investigation.

California is one of 13 states that does not have a minimum age requirement for marriage. Child marriage is currently legal in 46 states, with only Delaware, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania setting the minimum age at 18 and eliminating all exceptions, according to Equality Now. Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris says she's introduced a bill to ban child marriage in the state.

Progressive lawmakers in California are pushing for an ambitious wealth tax on the ultra-rich, but moderate Democrats have chafed at the idea. 

Assembly Bill 310, dubbed The California Tax on Extreme Wealth, would impose an annual 1% tax on net worth over $50 million, and a 1.5% tax on net worth over $1 billion. It would also require a constitutional amendment to increase the state’s current wealth tax cap.
