SACRAMENTO – With broad support from environmental groups, two coastal protection bills authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris have passed unanimously out of the Assembly’s Committee on Natural Resources. AB 67 – The 2021 Sea-Level Rise Preparedness Act – will ensure all state agencies conduct a standard, robust sea-level rise analysis before investing in infrastructure projects along the coast. AB 72 – The 2021 Coastal Adaptation Permitting Act – will rationalize the regulatory approval process for critical coastal adaptation projects.
 

SACRAMENTO – The California Assembly Health Committee has unanimously passed legislation authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris to protect patients recovering from alcohol and substance abuse. AB 1158 will ensure that licensed drug abuse recovery and treatment facilities, and recovery residences that contract with the government, maintain minimum insurance coverage levels to protect patients from abuse or injury.  
 

SACRAMENTO– In response to increasing rates of domestic violence reports during the COVID-19 pandemic, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris introduced AB 689 which will support the expansion of domestic violence crisis hotline services to include computer chat and phone text platforms. This bill passed the Assembly’s Public Safety committee with unanimous support.

SACRAMENTO — At a pivotal point in global pandemic response and recovery, the Assembly’s Revenue and Taxation Committee voted unanimously to support AB 593 which will incentivize the innovation of life-saving therapies, like the COVID-19 vaccine. The Golden State Innovation Act, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, restores critical tax incentives that make it possible for life science companies to perform cutting-edge research and development that will ultimately end the pandemic.
 

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Three key California State Legislators representing Huntington Beach spoke out today to condemn a Ku Klux Klan-promoted “White Lives Matter” rally this weekend in Huntington Beach, as well as reports of KKK flyers distributed in Newport Beach and Huntington Beach in recent weeks. Senators Dave Min (D-Irvine) and Tom Umberg (D-Orange County) and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Newport Beach) released the following statement:

SACRAMENTO – Legislation to expand restoration along the California coast, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, passed the State Assembly’s Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee with unanimous support. AB 63 will allow for restoration activities in marine conservation areas, which play an essential role in the fight against the effects of climate change and human impacts like oil spills and overfishing.

SACRAMENTO – With broad support from law enforcement and prosecutors, legislation preventing fraudulent unemployment claims has passed out of the Assembly’s Consumer Privacy and Protection Committee. AB 110, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, will require the Employment Development Department (EDD) to cross-check incarceration records in order to prevent paying fraudulent benefits.
