IRVINE – Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris has named five Nonprofits of Distinction for 2021: Power of One Foundation (Costa Mesa), Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center (Huntington Beach), Miracles for Kids (Irvine), Age Well (Laguna Woods) and Project Self Sufficiency (Newport Beach).

Nonprofit of Distinction is an annual recognition ceremony held locally following California Nonprofits Day in June. Community members are invited to nominate nonprofit organizations that have shown extraordinary work, service and compassion in our communities. 

NEWPORT BEACH – The Wee Loft, a local European Toy Shop, has been selected as part of the Small Business Spotlight for Assembly District 74. For more than 37 years, this Corona Del Mar-based small business has been dedicated to sparking happiness for kids in Orange County.
 

SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris has expanded legislation to close a critical loophole in Gun Violence Restraining Orders (GVROs) to also cover Domestic Violence Restraining Orders (DVROs). AB 1057 will allow for ghost guns to be seized when an individual is deemed to be an extreme risk to themselves or others, or if a person has perpetrated abuse or threats of abuse.

SACRAMENTO – At an informational hearing held by the Select Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, legislators, economists, advocates and small business owners discussed the state of recovery for small businesses. As California emerges from the COVID-19 Pandemic, these experts highlighted critical challenges facing the small business community and offered specific policy solutions for this committee to explore. 
 

SACRAMENTO — In response to an 18% increase in overdoses nationwide, legislation to protect patients recovering from alcohol and substance use has passed out of the Senate Insurance Committee and Senate Health Committee with unanimous support. AB 1158, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, will protect recovering patients from abusive practices by requiring licensed recovery and treatment facilities and recovery residences contracted with the government to maintain minimum insurance coverage.

SACRAMENTO – In an effort to protect the California Coast, the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee unanimously passed AB 72 authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris. AB 72, the Coastal Adaptation Permitting Act of 2021, cuts green tape by establishing a coordinated and efficient process for coastal adaptation permitting.

SACRAMENTO – On Monday, July 12, 2021, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Chair of the Select Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, will convene a hearing focused on small business recovery following the COVID-19 Pandemic. Panelists will present data of the current state of recovery and policy solutions for critical challenges facing small businesses. 

SACRAMENTO — The Senate Health Committee has passed legislation to increase access to wraparound healthcare services that enable seniors to age in the comfort of their own communities instead of nursing homes. AB 540 will help thousands of California’s growing population of seniors by improving beneficiary awareness and access to the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).
