A California lawmaker is hoping that replacing one word in the state’s telehealth law will enable residents to get birth control pills through an mHealth app or telehealth service.
AB 1264, submitted by State Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach) earlier this year, replaces the word “it” with “the licensee” in defining the Business and Professions Code regarding the use of telehealth or prescribe, dispense or furnish so-called “dangerous drugs.”
Action Necessary in Response to the Opioid Crisis
SACRAMENTO — Assembly Bills (AB) 919 and 920, authored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach), will increase protections for vulnerable patients seeking legitimate substance abuse treatment. Both bills passed the Legislature unanimously, at the end of the legislative session with bipartisan support, and will now be sent to the Governor who has until October 13, 2019 to consider legislation.

As the state-owned Fairview Developmental Center prepares to close in coming months, Costa Mesa officials are taking steps to ensure they’re involved in decisions on reuse of the center’s spacious campus in the heart of the city.
SACRAMENTO – In an effort to ensure local input is considered regarding the future use of Fairview Developmental Center in Costa Mesa, California, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris authored Assembly Bill 1199, which would require the Department of General Services (DGS) to hold a public hearing. Today, AB 1199 passed the Senate Floor 40-0, receiving final approval from the Legislature with strong bi-partisan support.
