SACRAMENTO - In addition to the ravages of the Covid-19 Pandemic, there is another devastating epidemic plaguing California and the entire nation: the opioid epidemic. The opioid epidemic is increasingly being fueled by the rise of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid which is now the leading cause of opioid related deaths. Fentanyl is one of the most dangerous and deadly substances in the world – just 2 milligrams is enough to kill. In the last three years, fentanyl deaths in California have risen by 541% and 37% of all drug-related deaths involve fentanyl.

On March 9, 2021, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris and Senator Patricia Bates will announce the details of legislative efforts to combat the opioid crisis and prevent illicit fentanyl trafficking during a virtual press conference.

SACRAMENTO – On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Chair of the Assembly Accountability and Administrative Review Committee, and Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, Chair of the Assembly Emergency Management Committee, will be holding a joint oversight hearing to review California’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution strategy.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris has hired Alexander Kim as her new District Director. In this role, Alexander will serve as a community liaison based out of the Assemblywoman’s Irvine office for the cities of Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine, Laguna Woods and Laguna Beach.
 

SACRAMENTO - In order to protect the safety of patients recovering from alcohol and substance use, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, in collaboration with Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, introduced AB 1158 on Thursday, February 18, 2021. This bill will ensure that licensed drug abuse recovery and treatment facilities and recovery residences that contract with the government maintain minimum insurance coverage levels and higher standards to protect patients from abuse or injury.

Atkins and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon today announced a $9.6BB economic recovery package, including immediate actions to substantially increase aid for California small businesses & nonprofits who have been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic (RELEASE).

SACRAMENTO – At a virtual press conference, Assemblymembers Cottie Petrie-Norris, Tom Daly, Kevin Mullin and Jacqui Irwin unveiled coalition support and legislative details of the Golden State Innovation Act. Assembly Bill 593 will restore the Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit and Net Operating Loss (NOL) deductions for Life Sciences companies in California, at a pivotal point in the state’s pandemic response and recovery.
 

SACRAMENTO – The Golden State Innovation Act of 2021 (AB 593) has been introduced to fuel job growth and innovation through the restoration of the Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit and Net Operating Loss (NOL) deduction for Life Sciences companies in California.  AB 593 was introduced by Assemblymembers Cottie Petrie-Norris, Kevin Mullin, Tom Daly and Jacqui Irwin and is supported by a coalition of Life Science companies and patient-advocacy groups.

SACRAMENTO — Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris has introduced Assembly Bill 540 which will help thousands of California’s growing population of seniors remain in their homes and in our communities, by improving beneficiary awareness and access to the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).
 

SACRAMENTO – At a joint oversight hearing February 10, 2021 of the Assembly Accountability and Administrative Review Committee and the Assembly Emergency Management Committee, legislators questioned the Administration on the COVID-19 vaccine distribution strategy. During the hearing, the Administration shared details on their shorterm and longterm plans for a successful and equitable rollout of the vaccine in California. Additionally, there was an update on vaccine distribution data, the MyTurn Appointment system and supply estimates for the upcoming months.
