Sacramento, CA - Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine) issued the statement below following Governor Newsom’s 2025-26 State Budget proposal.
“Governor Newsom’s proposed budget highlights the significant challenges facing California while presenting an opportunity to have critical discussions about how to best serve our state. With a modest surplus, there is an opportunity to prioritize energy affordability, protect vulnerable Californians, and strengthen our preparedness for natural disasters.
As wildfires continue to devastate parts of Southern California—taking lives, destroying thousands of homes, and leaving communities in crisis—it is essential that we commit to providing the resources needed to recover and to reduce these risks in the future.
I look forward to working with my colleagues and stakeholders to refine and strengthen this budget so that it delivers on these critical priorities and meets the needs of all Californians. “
