COSTA MESA- The Unlikely Cyclist has been honored by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris as the Local Business Spotlight for February. It is a woman-owned, local bike shop, focused on women.
“I am very excited to recognize The Unlikely Cyclist for our Small Business Spotlight this month. It is truly remarkable seeing how this business evolved into a community of women gathered around their love for cycling” said Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine).
“We are so grateful to be recognized by Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris for our contributions as a small business in our community,” said store owner Lisa Fleischaker. “When we opened The Unlikely Cyclist in 2012 our goal was to give female cyclists a home where they could feel comfortable and welcomed in a sport that has historically been male-centric.”
Over the last 11 years, The Unlikely Cyclist evolved into a strong community of over 1000 cyclists who are members of the cycling club. They continue to work to create a space that is inclusive to not only women cyclists but all cyclists that feel under-represented in the sport. The store continues to thrive with their club’s support and the support of others that believe in the cause. The Unlikely Cyclist has always called Costa Mesa home and looks forward to being a part of this community for many years to come.
