SACRAMENTO — Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach), Chair of the Accountability & Administrative Review Committee, released the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposed 2020-21 state budget:
“The Governor’s budget kicks off the state’s public budget process, and I support proposed critical investments addressing the homelessness crisis, emergency preparedness, as well as saving money in the bank in our rainy day fund and paying down pension obligations. California is the fifth largest economy in the world, and with a record $5.6 Billion surplus, we must be responsible stewards of tax dollars and use existing revenues to fund our priorities. We should focus our spending on public safety, schools, infrastructure and protecting our environment. I look forward to working with the Governor, my colleagues and my constituents to support a fiscally responsible budget that is accountable to California’s taxpayers and fuels our long-term economic growth.”
