SACRAMENTO — Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach), Chair of the Accountability & Administrative Review Committee, released the following statement after voting for Assembly Bill 74, the 2019-20 state budget bill passed today, June 13, 2019.
“I am pleased with the balance in the 2019-2020 budget. With careful attention to state and local issues, we have crafted a budget that will strengthen state reserves, enhance budget resiliency and create economic opportunity to fuel California’s long-term growth.
“The State budget includes historic funding for schools and higher education; vital investments in emergency preparedness and response; and significant one-time infusions to fund housing and homelessness solutions.
“Most importantly, I am pleased to announce that Assembly District 74 has secured direct funding for some of our most pressing issues. One of my top priorities in this year’s budget negotiations has been funding to address our countywide homelessness crisis. To that end, I was able to secure funding for the Orange County Housing Trust and for an initiative in partnership with the United Way to end veteran’s homelessness in Orange County.
“Additionally, in the 2019-2020 budget, we have secured investments in:
- A First Responder Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance System Pilot Program to be executed by the Orange County Fire Authority to fight wildfires county-wide
- Coastal restoration projects
- Science and arts education
- Community resources, including parks, libraries and active transportation pathways
“I am grateful to partner with my constituents, community leaders and with our state and local elected officials to ensure Orange County remains a special place to live, work, and raise a family.”
AB 74 now heads to the Governor’s desk and he has 12 days to act on it.
