California State Assembly Select Committee on Student Debt to Hold First Informational Hearing

Hearing will Discuss “The Changing Face of the Student Debt Crisis in California”

IRVINE, CA – On Friday, May 17, Assemblymember Cottie Petrie-Norris and members of the Assembly Select Committee on Student Debt will host the first informational hearing on the student debt crisis. The event is co-hosted by NextGen Policy, Consumer Law Clinic at UCI and the Associated Students of the University of California, Irvine (ASUCI).

Across the Golden State, more than 3.7 million borrowers owe $142 billion in student debt. The committee will feature three panels with testimonies of the experiences of student borrowers and of experts in the field. The hearing will explore the barriers created by rising student debt levels and will aim to find real solutions for the millions of borrowers struggling with debt. There will be an opportunity for public comment.
