Celebrating the Service of Women Across California
SACRAMENTO — Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach) has named Beth Krom of Irvine Assembly District 74’s Woman of the Year. On Monday, March 4, 2019, at a special ceremony on the Assembly Floor in honor of Women’s History Month, Krom was presented with a resolution honoring her service to the people of Orange County and the State of California.
On Monday, March 4, 2019, at a special ceremony on the Assembly Floor Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach) recognized Beth Krom of Irvine as the Assembly District 74 Woman of the Year. Krom, who served for nearly two decades as a City Councilmember and Mayor in the City of Irvine, was presented with a resolution honoring her service to the people of Orange County and the State of California.
Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris praised Beth Krom for her civic involvement and excellence in leadership. She commented, “Throughout its history California has benefited immensely from the contributions of women who possess great public spirit, who, in addition to their daily pursuits, have taken a keen interest in local affairs. Beth Krom is a strong and effective leader for our community. She leads with courage and conviction.”
Krom was selected for her long history of civic engagement and her commitment to social justice. During her time as Mayor of Irvine she led the City to earn the distinction of Safest Big City in America, significantly enhanced support for local schools, and helped triple the city’s reserves, which allowed Irvine to weather the Great Recession without laying off municipal employees or reducing city services service reductions or municipal employee layoffs.
The California Women’s Legislative Caucus hosts the annual Women of the Year ceremony where every legislator is invited to select one woman from their district to distinguish for their service to California.
