RESOURCES FOR CONTINUING TO COMBAT COVID-19
Dear Neighbor:
As we head into the Independence Day holiday weekend, I want to wish you and your family a safe and joyous celebration of our nation’s hard-earned freedom.
As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, California and Orange County have recently seen a spike in COVID-19 positivity rates. First, I wanted to affirm that I am tracking the situation closely and working with our Public Health Officers to ensure decisions are being made based on science and data. Below you’ll find updated resources on how to continue to fight this virus, both as individuals and as a community.
TESTING, REVISITING TOWN HALLS AND YOUTUBE
One of the most common question I hear from constituents is how to get tested and how to stay healthy during the pandemic.
Please remember:
- The Orange County Health Agency (OCHA) has a page of local testing locations for those with testing symptoms, as does the state.
- You can learn more about the mechanics of testing from my May 22nd testing town hall, posted on my new YouTube page. (And you can like and follow the page for continued updates).
- Covered California has extended their special enrollment deadline for healthcare coverage to the end of July. Please get covered, if you haven’t already.
- My website has a dedicated COVID-19 section, which I encourage you to visit for additional information.
I’ll continue to provide resources like these on social media as well as via email.
MASKS OP-ED AND HOW-TO GUIDE
Outside of testing, another key method for slowing the spread of COVID-19 is to wear masks when outside your home when physical distancing is not possible.
As of June 18, the state is now under a mandatory mask order. The new order includes wearing masks in any high-risk situation, including “inside of, or in line to enter, any indoor public space”.
I’ve written about the importance of wearing a mask in The Daily Pilot, and my firm belief is that this is one of the most effective actions we can all do to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Remember, wearing a mask is a way to protect each other even when we have no detectable symptoms.
I’m so thankful to all the local residents who have been handmaking masks to donate to local frontline workers, we’ve been able to donate hundreds! Check out our delivery to including the USPS workers in Huntington Beach.
And if you’re looking for additional guidance on what kind of masks are best, the CDC has a great video here.
OFFICE HOURS (ON ZOOM!)
My office is always looking for new ways to connect with constituents and stay accessible. Now more than ever, my office is doing everything we can to provide assistance. We've found a few creative ways to do so, including hosting virtual office hours where constituents can speak privately with staff via Zoom. Office hours will be held every Monday, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, visit my RSVP form if you’d like to sign up.
Outside of these specific office hours, my staff is always available by phone and ready to serve you.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to my team. Stay healthy, stay strong, and we’ll continue to get through this pandemic together.
