Cash Refunds for Millions of Californians

__SALUTATION__

Inflation relief checks are on the way! Most Californians will be receiving a one-time cash refund of up to $1,050 to help offset the higher costs caused by inflation. I was proud to advocate to fund these direct payments as part of this year's state budget passed by the Legislature.

You are eligible if you:

  • Filed your 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021
  • Meet the California adjusted gross income (CA AGI) limits described in the Tax Refund section
  • Were not eligible to be claimed as a dependent in the 2020 tax year
  • Were a California resident for six months or more of the 2020 tax year
  • Are a California resident on the date the payment is issued

Payments will range from $400 to $1,050 for couples filing jointly and $200 to $700 for all other individuals depending on their income and whether they claimed a dependent. A total of 18 million payments will be distributed, benefitting up to 23 million Californians. An estimated 8 million direct deposits will start arriving in bank accounts from October 7 through November 14, and an estimated 10 million debit cards will be delivered from October 25 through January 15. To determine your eligibility, visit taxrefund.ca.gov.

If you filed your 2020 taxes electronically, expect to receive your refund by direct deposit.

  • Prior Golden State Stimulus I or II recipients - 10/7-10/25
  • Other eFilers - 10/28-11/14

If you filed your 2020 taxes via standard USPS, expect to receive your refund via a debit card sent to your address on file with the FTB.

  • Prior Golden State Stimulus I or II recipients - 10/25-12/10
  • Remaining Tax Filers - Before 1/15/23
