SACRAMENTO - In addition to the ravages of the Covid-19 Pandemic, there is another devastating epidemic plaguing California and the entire nation: the opioid epidemic. The opioid epidemic is increasingly being fueled by the rise of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid which is now the leading cause of opioid related deaths. Fentanyl is one of the most dangerous and deadly substances in the world – just 2 milligrams is enough to kill. In the last three years, fentanyl deaths in California have risen by 541% and 37% of all drug-related deaths involve fentanyl.

On March 9, 2021, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris and Senator Patricia Bates will announce the details of legislative efforts to combat the opioid crisis and prevent illicit fentanyl trafficking during a virtual press conference.
SACRAMENTO – On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Chair of the Assembly Accountability and Administrative Review Committee, and Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, Chair of the Assembly Emergency Management Committee, will be holding a joint oversight hearing to review California’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution strategy.
