SACRAMENTO – On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, as Chair of the Assembly’s Select Committee on the Orange County Oil Spill, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris is convening a Joint Oversight Hearing with the Assembly Natural Resources Committee and Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 3 on Climate Crisis, Resources, Energy, and Transportation. Legislators will explore the past and present efforts to decommission offshore oil production off the coast of California and explore legislative proposals.

In honor of the 49th Anniversary of Roe. V. Wade, California Legislative Women’s Caucus Chair Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens), Vice Chair Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley), Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), and other caucus members announced a united effort today to strengthen and expand access to abortion and ensure that California is a national beacon for reproductive freedom.

SACRAMENTO - Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Chair of the Accountability & Administrative Review Committee, released the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposed 2022-2023 State Budget:

“The Governor’s budget proposal comes as we enter the third year of the pandemic. This is a critical juncture for California— we must continue to combat the COVID-19 crisis and make the investments that will enable us to forge a swift, robust and equitable recovery. 

OAKLAND – California Attorney General Rob Bonta today agreed not to object to a settlement between Providence St. Joseph Health (Providence) and Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian (Hoag) that will lead to the disaffiliation of the two hospital systems. The settlement will allow Hoag to become an independent entity, and as part of the agreement, Hoag has committed to expand reproductive health services in Orange County. The Attorney General’s Office was not a party to the settlement.

COSTA MESA – On Thursday, December 16, 2021, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris presented a check for $8 million from the State to support the purchase of one of the last remaining parcels of privately owned land along the Southern California coast. The Trust for Public Land and the Banning Ranch Conservancy plan to conserve Banning Ranch by converting the 385-acre plot of land into a public park and nature preserve. The new park and preserve will provide access to open space for nearly 9 million Californians who live within an hour’s drive of Banning Ranch.
