Tustin, CA – Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris honored Arvida Book Co., a woman-owned, independent bookstore in Old Town Tustin, as the 2025 Small Business of the Year for California’s 73rd Assembly District.

Each year, Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris invites community members to nominate a local small business that has made a meaningful and lasting impact in their community. This year’s honoree, Arvida Book Co., stood out as a vibrant cultural and community hub, promoting literacy, inclusivity, and a love for storytelling in Orange County.

“Arvida Book Co. is more than just a bookstore — it’s a safe and inspiring space where people of all ages come together to connect, learn, and grow,” said Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine). “As a woman-owned small business, Arvida reflects the creativity, resilience, and spirit of our community.”

Founded in 2020 by Sam and Mike Robertson, Arvida Book Co. began with a vision to create a local, independent bookstore that prioritized diverse voices, community engagement, and a welcoming environment for all readers. What began as a small, curated shop has since grown into a treasured destination for book lovers, hosting author events, book clubs, poetry nights, and local artisan pop-ups.

In 2024, Sam and Mike launched The Arvida Review, a community-driven short fiction publication dedicated to amplifying new and diverse voices. The publication seeks to enrich Orange County’s literary landscape by hosting author readings, book signings, writing workshops, and festivals at Arvida Book Co. and other cultural venues across Southern California.

Arvida is known for its carefully selected collection of new and used books, as well as its commitment to promoting underrepresented authors. The store’s warm atmosphere, combined with its focus on community and sustainability, has earned it recognition from local media and organizations, including features in OC Register, LA Times, and multiple “Best of Orange County” listings.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized as the 2025 Small Business of the Year,” said Sam Robertson, co-owner of Arvida Book Co. “When we opened our doors, we hoped to create a space where stories could thrive and where people could feel seen, heard, and inspired. This recognition is a celebration of our community, our readers, and the power of independent bookstores to bring people together.”

Arvida Book Co. continues to serve as a cornerstone of Old Town Tustin, championing local artists, hosting inclusive events, and cultivating a space where imagination and connection flourish.
