UPDATE:
As of April 2020, local schools across Orange County have decided to maintain distance learning for the rest of the year.
The state has developed resources for K-12 learners, including messaging and support.
Additional developments:
- The University of California says it will ease admissions requirements at each of the system’s nine campuses for students applying for fall 2021. The temporary changes include suspending the requirement that students take standardized tests and allowing pass-fail grades for spring classes affected by the pandemic.
- The university also expects to work with admitted students to adjust financial aid packages if family financial circumstances have suddenly changed.
- With campuses closed for the foreseeable future, Orange County’s major internet service providers are offering free or reduced-price internet packages for families so students can continue learning at home.
- School counselors across Orange County are embracing innovative ways to support the emotional wellbeing and academic success of students. Luz Arellano, coordinator of K-12 school counseling for OCDE, shared five ways counselors are using technology to help students at home, along with a virtual toolkit for counselors.
