Irvine, CA (November 15, 2024) - On November 14th, city and state officials, community leaders and the Irvine Eagles Special Olympics Basketball Team were on hand for the official opening of the Sweet Shade Universal Playground — designed to meet the needs of all Irvine residents, regardless of ability.
Irvine Assemblymember Cottie Petrie-Norris was instrumental in securing $2.8 million in state funding for the universal playground, enabling its creation. “This investment reflects my commitment to creating spaces where every child can thrive, while fostering a love for learning and promoting accessibility,” she said. “I hope Sweet Shade Neighborhood Park will be a model for future projects that prioritize inclusivity.”
