Welcome to "Catching Up With Cottie" - a weekly update about what I am working on as your representative in the California State Assembly.
I hope you had a fantastic 4th of July with your loved ones!
Colin, Flounder, and I had an incredible time at the 56th Annual Tustin Meadows Community Fourth of July Parade. It was truly special to celebrate our Independence Day with the community, coming together to honor our nation's history and celebrate the values that unite us.
My team was thrilled to join the festivities at the City of Costa Mesa's Independence Day Community Celebration! It was a great opportunity to connect with the community and share how my office can assist them while enjoying great music and a spectacular fireworks show!
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve, and I am committed to addressing the issues that are important to you. As always, if there is anything that my team or I can do to assist you with a local or state issue, if you have questions or concerns about what I am working on, or anything in between, please contact my office. My team and I are here to help!
Yours faithfully,
Cottie Petrie-Norris
California State Assemblywoman
Last week, I chaired the final bill hearing for the Utilities and Energy Committee for this year. California's electric grid continues to face enormous challenges, but I look forward to continuing our work transitioning to a clean energy future that is affordable for all. I want to thank Vice Chair Jim Patterson and the other members of the committee for their partnership this year!
COMMUNITY RECOGNITION
Congratulations to Handel's Ice Cream for the grand opening at their new location at Alton Square in Irvine! Shoutout to our new intern Aishwarya who helped us celebrate their new location. We wish you a sweet success!
RESOURCES
The State of California is trying to return approximately $13 billion to its rightful owners. Is some of it yours? California's unclaimed property laws require "holders," such as corporations, business associations, financial institutions, insurance companies, and others, to annually deliver and report to the State Controller's Office after there has been no customer contact for over three years. Often the owner forgets that the account exists, moves and does not leave a forwarding address, or the forwarding address expires. To find potential money, visit the State Controller's Office and search the Database of Unclaimed Properties for money that the state may owe you.
Starting this summer, you can buy more food for your child with California SUN Bucks, also called Summer-EBT. SUN Bucks works just like CalFresh, but for the summer.Children who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals through a school meal application or an Alternative Income Form, or get CalFresh, CalWORKs, or Medi-Cal, are automatically enrolled. You don't need to do anything to sign up. SUN Bucks provides $40 per month for food for June, July and August 2024 ($120 total).
